IRS Adjustments

The IRS is starting to send out Adjustment Notices. These notices report a difference between IRS information records (i.e. W-2, 1099, etc.) and amounts recorded on tax returns.

For 2020 and 2021 the reporting of stimulus amounts is a huge source of differences between IRS records and tax returns. If you receive a notice regarding an adjustment for the recovery rebate credit, your first action is to confirm that the IRS system reporting payments matches the amounts that hit your bank or came via a debit card.

To verify the information for your 1st and 2nd stimulus payments you will need to register for or login to your IRS Tax Account. For debit card balances you can register online at www.eipcard.com or call customer service at 1-800-240-8100.

At this time our office is not able to verify this information on your behalf. If you are a current client and discover that there is a discrepancy between what you received and what the IRS is reporting in your notice, please provide to us all pages of your notice along with supporting documentation.
